THE Poker Channel has launched channels in Argentina and South Africa, the first time that the broadcaster has offered its content to South American or African viewers.
It will be the first TV channel dedicated to poker in Argentina, and will broadcast in Spanish from 7 June to approximately a million TV subscribers of the Cablevision, Supercanal and Telered networks. South African broadcasts will begin the same day on DSTV.
The launches will follow just two months after Poker Channel launched French-language broadcasts in April together with a new channel in Latvia, and will coincide with launches in Austria and Monaco, making its content available to a new total of 26 million homes in 30 countries.
Although the channel attracts just a million unique TV viewers a month in its home market of Europe, 65% of viewers play online every day.
Poker Channel managing director Chris White said: “This is our first step into Latin America and Africa and a huge milestone for us and our partners. It shows the desire to play and watch poker continues to grow around the world.”
The Poker Channel won the Rising Star of the Year trophy at the 2009 EGR Awards.
