PointsBet poaches SportCaller exec to lead US CRM and promotions division
Online operator recruits Irish sportsbook veteran Paddy McDermott in newly created role based in Denver

PointsBet has hired SportCaller’s Paddy McDermott in a newly created VP role to lead its US-facing CRM and promotions arm.
McDermott joined the operator on August 23 from free-to-play (F2P) specialist SportCaller, where he spent more than three years as a performance director.
SportCaller was acquired by PointsBet rival Bally’s Corporation in February of this year.
McDermott will soon join up with PointsBet’s Denver-based team at the firm’s US headquarters in Colorado. He is currently based in Dublin.
In his new role as VP of CRM and promotions, the Irishman will be responsible for leading the department in decision-making and budget planning to ensure that customer needs are met.
McDermott has pledged to use previous learnings and case studies from his 18 years in sports betting to avoid repeating past mistakes and to capitalise on opportunities as they arise.
“Being able to join a budding giant in PointsBet in its current stage was an incredibly attractive opportunity for me personally,” he told EGR.
“Over a very brief span of four years, the PointsBet team has cemented itself as a challenger brand built off owning and operating its in-house technology.
“Given the rapid pace at which both PointsBet and the industry itself is growing, PointsBet’s tech foundation will allow the company to continue to meet and surpass the needs of the customer.
“Most importantly, PointsBet has a fantastic team of young, ambitious and talented people and I consider myself very lucky to join them and make an impact,” McDermott added.
He will report into PointsBet SVP of customer and insights Ron Shell.
McDermott first made a name for himself in this industry at Paddy Power Betfair.
He originally joined the business as a sportsbook operations executive in 2005 before being promoted to planning, strategy and analysis manager in 2013.
