Australian operator expands into Garden State following Michigan launch

PointsBet has launched in New Jersey after being given the green light to start igaming operations in the Garden State.
The Australian-headquartered operator confirmed it had received approval from the New Jersey Department of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) to commence operations there.
It follows the launch of the firm’s inaugural US igaming platform in Michigan in May.
PointsBet CEO and MD Sam Swanell said he was “thrilled” to expand the firm’s igaming business into the Garden State.
“The continued growth of our igaming presence further advances our ability to acquire and retain premium clients, complementing our existing sports wagering products,” Swannell added.
The firm also cited strong revenue growth in the New Jersey igaming market, with revenue growing by 62% in 2019 and 101% in 2020.
PointsBet has been on a hiring spree over the last month, making several C-level appointments, beginning with the hire of former Mazooma director of legal and compliance Chantal Cipriano as its first VP of legal, compliance, and people for PointsBet Canada.
The firm also recruited bet365 head of games Aaron O’Sullivan as its new VP of online casino revenue to oversee igaming operations in the US, and most recently appointed Scott Vanderwel as its first ever PointsBet Canada CEO.
