
Pennsylvania enjoys double-digit growth in key verticals during September
New PGCB data shows growth of Keystone State market as sportsbook grows by 77% and igaming by 15%

Pennsylvania’s sports betting and igaming market grew by double-digits in percentage terms during September, according to the latest data released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).
Keystone State sportsbooks received bets totaling $645.2m during the month, with revenue growing 77.74% year on year (YoY) in the period to $50.2m.
Of this, $43m was generated by the state’s online sportsbooks, with the remaining $7.2m coming from retail.
Triple digit YoY percentage rises were reported in five major casinos in the state, three of which were Hollywood Casino outlets, as well as Harrah’s Philadelphia and Presque Isle Downs and Casino.
The stated collected total taxes of $18m from sportsbook operators during September 2022.
Pennsylvania igaming revenue also grew in September, albeit at a lower percentage than the state’s sportsbooks, up 15.23% YoY to $112.7m in the month.
The biggest rise in igaming was reported at Live! Casino and Hotel Philadelphia, where revenue grew 195.1% YoY to $2m.
In respect of the $112.7m figure, $77.8m was generated by online slots games, with table games accounting for $32.1m, and internet poker representing $2.6m of September’s revenue.
Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play amounted to $47.6m in September.
At a statewide level, Pennsylvania’s fantasy sports operators could not match the percentage growth of their sportsbook and igaming counterparts, with fantasy sports revenue slumping by 41.27% YoY during September to just $1.8m.
Fantasy sports heavyweights DraftKings and FanDuel both saw double-digit declines in their DFS revenue during September, falling by 42% and 59%, respectively.
In contrast, Underdog Fantasy, Fantasy Sports Games LLC, and Yahoo Fantasy Sports all saw triple-digit percentage rises in their DFS revenue, increasing by 393%, 278%, and 164% YoY, respectively, during September.
Taxation revenue of $283,105 was collected by the state during the period.
