Paf to invest £240,000 in gambling addiction research
Finnish monopoly operator to share findings with industry as part of social responsibility push
Paf will fund a four-year, £240,000 research project into online gambling addiction which will examine the impact of betting limits, customer contact and feedback on gaming habits.
The study, which will be conducted in cooperation with Stockholm University’s Department of Psychology, will centre on Paf’s online site and explore a range of different online communication methods in order to combat problem gambling.
The research will also explore which communication methods increase the proportion of users who voluntarily choose to set limits when gambling online.
“Responsible gaming pervades our whole operation and we are therefore convinced that the research outcome is going to guide our future development in that area,” Daniela Johansson, Paf chief responsibility officer, said.
Johansson added that the results of the research would be shared in the hope that it would have an impact on the broader online gaming industry.
Paf has a strong history in socially responsible gambling, hosting a biannual conference on the subject and winning the Socially Responsible Operator award at last year’s eGaming Review Operator Awards.
In June Paf CEO Anders Ingves told eGaming Review that despite new social responsibility measures hitting profits, the operator would not change its business model.
“Our mission is to build profit which goes to the common good and we will do it in a responsible way,” he said.
Paf is a not-for-profit operator with proceeds from the gaming business handed down to good causes.
