OpenBet reports more than 100,000 bets per minute on Grand National
Sports betting supplier highlights 100% uptime as technology chief points to “seamless betting experience” for operator partners

OpenBet processed 101,000 peak bets per minute on this year’s Grand National during the three-day festival as the supplier championed a “record-breaking” result at Aintree.
The total figure was a 21% increase on 2023 with 3,000 bets placed per second, according to OpenBet, representing a 34% jump compared to the year prior.
Additionally, the firm reported 397 million account transactions, up 3% on 2023.
OpenBet, which provides services for the likes of Flutter, William Hill and Entain, also disclosed the average win and each-way stake for the race was £5.42.
The famous steeplechase, which was won by 7/1 favourite I am Maximus, was the first edition to have a reduced field of 34 runners as organisers moved to improve safety.
OpenBet noted that despite the reduction in field size, “betting interest remained extremely high across the three-day festival”.
Florian Diederichsen, OpenBet chief technology officer, said: “We continue to deliver record-breaking results at OpenBet, across some of the world’s major sporting events.
“This year, the Grand National continued to attract extraordinary levels of bettors. With an average win and each-way stake being £5.42, any downtime would have risked hundreds of thousands of pounds in lost turnover.
“However, our operator partners were able to deliver a seamless betting experience for the historical event, with the support of our highly experienced team and industry-leading technology.
“We look forward to delivering even more success during the summer of sport ahead,” he added.
In other Grand National news, the Betting and Gaming Council has reported a £15,000 return to good causes as part of its charity bet drive with MPs.
