
Online casino powers Danish market growth in Q2
Online casino vertical grows 18% to become the same size as sports betting


Denmark’s online casino revenues drew level with sports betting for the first time in Q2, with the vertical growing 18% YoY to DKK634m (£77m), according to the latest figures from the Danish regulator.
Slots made up the lion’s share of online casino revenues at 71%, with roulette at 10% and blackjack at 8%. Around 60% of online casino revenues came via desktop, with 40% via mobile.
The growth of the vertical meant online casino had near identical revenues to the entire sports betting sector, which declined 2% to DKK635m.
The percentage of bets placed via mobile declined slightly during the quarter, accounting for 53% of bets, while bets placed via retail bookmakers fell to just 18% of all bets made during the period.
The overall Danish market grew 6% to DKK1.73bn.
The total number of individuals registered with the Danish self-exclusion scheme ROFUS hit 19,255 in Q2 2019. Of these, 6,204 chose to self-exclude on a temporary basis, while 13,051 chose to self-exclude permanently.
A total of 348 calls were received by the Danish regulators StopSpillet gambling-related harm information service specifically concerning self-exclusion, while 466 individuals contacted StopSpillet for general information.
