Onionsack unveils sports betting search engine selection technology
Irish firm takes inspiration from Google as it unveils natural language text and speech bet search function

Onionsack has developed a new natural language search engine for sports betting operators in a move aimed at improving UX.
The Irish technology company has built the software following its recognition of the stagnation in bet selection technology, which still mirrors the retail coupon system for many operators.
The new search function, which Onionsack compared to the revolution of Google’s search engine, will allow bettors to search for specific markets and matches instead of scrolling through multiple pages.
The technology also uses a voice search function, with the firm noting that more than twice the amount of 16-to-34-year-olds use voice search when compared to 55-to-64-year-olds.
Onionsack said the search function interface would fit into existing operator front-ends via a search widget while keeping bettors on the homepage.
Jonathan Power, Onionsack CEO, said the technology would be key for targeting both the growing US market and in attracting a younger demographic of sports bettors.
He said: “Natural language navigation will be game-changing in the nascent US market. In order to attract new, younger customers sports betting brands have to talk to them in a way, style and language they understand.
“It should be just as easy to place a bet on what you want by text or voice as it is to buy anything in the e-commerce world,” he added.
