OLG head of interactive exits for Amaya
George Sweny departs just weeks after the Canadian provincial operator launched its real-money gaming site
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp’s (OLG) SVP of interactive George Sweny (pictured) has left the firm in order to take up a new position at Canadian gaming giant Amaya Gaming.
Sweny joins Toronto-based Amaya as vice-president of strategic ventures and his departure from OLG coming just weeks after the provincial operator finally launched its real-money gaming site after years of planning.
Sweny, who helped develop the responsible gaming strategy for PlayOLG.ca, is on the board of the Responsible Gaming Council of Canada, and has previously served on the board of the North American State Provincial Lotteries Association.
Amaya CEO David Baazov said he was “extremely honoured” to be able to benefit from Sweny’s experience in both the public and private sector, adding he “will ensure [Amaya] maintain[s] the highest standards in responsible gaming”.
Sweny began his career at the Ontario Lottery Corp in 1975 where he held several senior positions including overseeing its lottery and bingo businesses.
Prior to joining the OLG in 2012, Sweny was chief strategy officer for the province’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission, and has also held roles at Len Stuart & Associates and the British Columbia Lottery Corp.
