Nederlandse Loterij promotes stalwart CMO to chief customer officer
Former De Lotto CMO and Eredivisie media head Arno de Jong will also join the firm's executive board as a result of his promotion

The Dutch Lottery, Nederlandse Loterij, has promoted from within to name Arno de Jong as the firm’s new chief customer officer (CCO).
The new role will see de Jong join CEO Arjan Blok and chief financial and risk officer (CFRO) Jet Roos-van Aerssen on the Nederlandse Loterij executive board.
Blok was named CEO in May after serving as CFO since November 2016, with former eBay exec Roos-van Aerssen being drafted in to bridge the gap.
In his new role, de Jong is tasked with building brand capital, organising the firm’s portfolio to maximise value and developing Nederlandse Loterij’s commercial strategy.
De Jong joined the Nederlandse Loterij in April 2016 as chief marketing officer (CMO). Prior to that, he spent two years between 2014 and 2016 as CMO and director of marketing for lottery and sports betting operator De Lotto.
Nederlandse Loterij was formed in 2016 via a merger between De Lotto and Nederlandse Staatsloterij.
From 2009 to 2014, de Jong was the director of media and marketing, as well as CCO and CMO for Eredivisie Media and Marketing, which is now majority owned by the Walt Disney Company and in turn boasts a partnership with Disney-owned firm ESPN.
Reflecting on his new title at Nederlandse Loterij, de Jong took to LinkedIn to express his delight.
He wrote: “I am proud to announce that I have been appointed chief customer officer of Nederlandse Loterij as of 1 July. As CCO, I will join the board of directors of our great organisation.“As chief customer officer, I will be responsible for the customer strategy, the portfolio of strong brands and the integrated commercial policy – both to the consumer market and to our retail partners.”I would like to thank our supervisory board for their trust and look forward to working with Arjan Blok and Jet Roos-van Aerssen to form the board of Nederlandse Loterij.
“But above all, it is a great assignment to further expand the success of Nederlandse Loterij together with our fantastic employees, retailers and marketing partners,” he added.
Alexander Pechtold, Nederlandse Loterij chairman, remarked: “With Arno de Jong as CCO in the daily management of Nederlandse Loterij, we are putting our players even more centrally in the organisation.
“So that we can continue to be leading and distinctive in the future – both digitally and in the store. With his entrepreneurial and creative spirit, Arno is the right person to guide Nederlandse Loterij in the desired further development.”
