MLB legend Cal Ripken Jr. joins DraftKings as special advisor
The Iron Man to provide strategy support to board of directors as he lands equity share in US giant

DraftKings has appointed baseball legend Cal Ripken Jr. as its latest special advisor to the board of directors.
Ripken Jr., who spent the entirety of his 20-year MLB career with the Baltimore Orioles, will lend his insights to the board on key initiatives and strategies.
Specifically, the Hall of Famer will advise on product development and marketing activities, as well as overall company strategy.
The 19-time All Star will also become a DraftKings equity shareholder as part of his role as a special advisor.
Ripken Jr. follows NBA legend Michael Jordan in becoming a special advisor to the Boston-headquartered operator.
Jordan linked-up with DraftKings in September 2020, with the news of his arrival sending the firm’s share price surging 16%.
Jason Robins, DraftKings CEO, said: “Cal Ripken Jr. embodies the qualities of perseverance and integrity we value so highly at DraftKings, and on behalf of the entire company I want to extend our warmest welcome to him as a special advisor.
“We are inspired not only by Cal’s historic playing days, but also his current work to cultivate new generations of ballplayers. His unique combination of leadership, longevity, and business acumen ensure that we will receive invaluable strategic counsel,” he added.
Ripken Jr. commented: “I am honored to bring my experience to DraftKings through this special advisor position and become part of a company that is already essential for fan engagement while still only scratching the surface of its full potential.”
