Carl Brincat elects not to renew his contract as regulator outlines recruitment process for his successor

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has announced that CEO Carl Brincat will not seek to renew his contract, which expires on 25 January 2024.
Brincat has served as MGA CEO since January 2021 having joined the regulator nine years ago as a legal advisor in September 2014.
He was made senior legal advisor in November 2015 and then deputy general counsel in November 2017. Brincat was then promoted to the role of chief legal counsel in January 2019.
He was given the role of chief legal and enforcement officer in October 2019 before stepping up to the top job in January 2021 .
Today, 30 October, the MGA has launched the recruitment process for Brincat’s successor.
The application window will close on 13 November, with the MGA looking for a “dynamic, passionate and a highly influential strategic thinker”.
Successful candidates will attend a first interview with a selection panel before a final shortlist of three will be invited for a second interview.
The selected candidate will officially join the MGA as CEO on 26 January 2024, with Brincat to remain on hand to facilitate a smooth transition process in the weeks prior to his departure.
Ryan C. Pace, MGA chairman, commented: “Carl has made extensive contributions to the MGA and to the gaming industry in Malta, and we are confident in and very thankful for, the strong foundation he leaves behind as we continue to pursue the MGA’s strategic goals.”
On his departure, Brincat remarked: “Leaving the MGA is a very hard decision to make. The past nine years have been a rollercoaster of experiences which contributed to the person I am today, and it has been a privilege to lead the authority for the past three years.
“Looking back, I am proud of the work that we have done together and of the highly motivated team that surrounds me at the authority.
“I look forward to continuing to deliver our commitments over my final few months and have no doubt that my successor will find that the fantastic team at the MGA can help him or her continue to drive improvement further. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the authority,” he concluded.
