Matchbook chief marketing officer departs after eight years
Eric Hegarty confirms exit from the betting exchange operator as he plans for transition into consultancy work

Matchbook’s chief marketing officer (CMO), Eric Hegarty, has announced that he has left the operator after eight years with the company.
Hegarty originally joined in April 2016 as a marketing executive before a series of promotions saw him rise to the top of the betting exchange’s marketing function.
In March 2017, he was promoted to CRM manager and then made head of acquisition and retention in May 2018.
In December 2019, Hegarty was appointed as head of marketing before stepping up to the C-suite as CMO in January 2022.
In that role, he was responsible for overall marketing strategy and activity for B2C operations across sports betting, casino and games.
Hegarty cut his teeth in the industry as an online marketing executive at Paddy Power for 18 months between September 2013 and February 2015.
In a LinkedIn post, Hegarty thanked his colleagues at Matchbook and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to make his mark on the business.
He said: “After eight very enjoyable years, my time at Matchbook has come to an end.
“I am very grateful for the opportunities and experience which I gained, culminating in my most recent position as chief marketing officer.
“I have made friends for life and have been very lucky to work with, and for, some amazing people on the marketing team, the senior management team and across the wider business as a whole,” he added.
Hegarty then revealed that he would take a small break before returning to aid new companies in the sports betting space as part of a consultancy role.
