London-based law firm explores legal action against Sky Bet over data breach
PGMBM launches new website for customers to pursue case as legal director slams “complete betrayal of consumer trust”

London-based law firm PGMBM is supporting legal action against Sky Betting & Gaming (SBG) for customers affected by a devastating data breach during Safer Gambling Week.
The Flutter Entertainment-owned operator mistakenly sent promotional emails for its Sky Vegas brand to up to 120,000 people – many of which were UK consumers self-excluded via GAMSTOP.
Conor Grant, CEO of Flutter’s UK and Ireland division, has since apologised for the mishap and pledged to investigate, while the UK Gambling Commission has launched its own investigation.
On top of potential enforcement action from the regulator, the business could now be facing a legal battle.
PGMBM has asked affected customers to visit www.skybetclaimlawyers.com as it explores the possibility of bringing legal proceedings against the operator for “mishandling data”.
Specialist data breach lawyer and PGMBM legal director Tony Winterburn has called on SBG to reveal how many people were sent the emails and explain how this was allowed to happen.
He said: “This mistake could cost people their recovery from gambling.
“These emails have already caused harm and distress to those who opted out of receiving gambling promotions for very good reason.
“Many of these people took brave and proactive steps, like registering with organisations such as GAMSTOP, to help themselves change their gambling behaviours.
“For them to have been inadvertently exposed to enticing advertisements is a complete betrayal of consumer trust,” he added.
