LeoVegas promotes from within for chief data officer role
Robert Farrugia takes up the position after six years employed at the Stockholm-based operator

LeoVegas has promoted Robert Farrugia from commercial and data and analytics director to its chief data officer.
Farrugia originally joined the gaming-led operator in October 2016 as the business analysis team lead.
He was then made head of business analysis in December 2017 and continued in that role for 18 months. He was later made head of data and analytics overseeing data science, data engineering, business intelligence and business analysis.
LeoVegas was Farrugia’s first move into the igaming industry as he previously worked for accountancy and IT companies.
His longest stint was eight years with IT Services and IT Consulting firm, ISACA Malta Chapter, where he was the business’ VP and president and served on the board for his entire tenure.
His other roles were with KPMG Malta, IBM Rome and ITRAC.
In a LinkedIn post, Farrugia said: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as chief data officer at LeoVegas Group.”
This is second appointment recently announced at LeoVegas after Chris Welch was made chief commercial officer (CCO) in charge of all acquisition, retention and marketing.
Welch spent the last year as a consultant for the Stockholm-headquartered operator across multiple brands, including BetUK and Pink Casino.
