LeoVegas hires MRG tech chief for CPO/CTO role

LeoVegas has hired MRG’s technology chief Mattias Wedar to serve as its new chief product and technology officer.

The operator is combining the two positions into one role for the first time, with Wedar joining in the spring.

He was previously head of the operator’s technology arm MRG Gametek where he was responsible for technology across the group.

LeoVegas said in a statement: “Mattias joins us most recently from a similar role and has solid experience in product development and keen industry knowledge. With this new position, the product and technology organisation will have a single leader, which will increase its effectiveness and cooperation within the group.”

Leo’s current CTO John Strömberg is currently on paternity leave and will return to a new role.

Elsewhere, MRG confirmed it had appointed a replacement for Wedar in the form of Viktor Paulsson, the former head of development at MRG Gametek.

Paulsson is now CTO and head of MRG Gametek.

Betsson made a similar move to combine its CPO and CTO role in January with the hiring of former chief technology officer (CTO) of Sweden’s biggest news outlet Bonnier News, Peter Frey.

Betsson operational CEO Jesper Svensson said the roles had been merged to increase efficiency and cut out any overlap in the business.
