KSA warns two operators over use of celebrities in ads
Following the ban on role models being used in gambling on 30 June 2022, the KSA has stated that almost all operators have obeyed the new rule
The Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) has stated that it had to warn two operators in the market as they were still using the voices of famous Dutch people in gambling adverts.
The ban on using role models in gambling ads was introduced by the KSA on 30 June 2022. This covered anyone in the public eye, such as current and former football players, influencers and models.
The only exception to this rule are charity lotteries, the state lottery and Lotto.
The KSA had to warn two firms for still using famous voices in a TV ad and on a podcast.
Following the warning from the regulator, both companies have stopped these ads. The KSA noted that if they failed to heed the warning, it would have issued a cease and desist order.
The regulator did say with the exception of these two infractions, the ban has been well observed following an investigation conducted by the KSA.
It also stated that it is keeping a close eye on the industry to ensure it continues to comply with the ban.
Elsewhere, the KSA recently announced that two illegal gambling operators, LCS Limited and MKC Limited, had left the Dutch market following a corrective sanction imposed on them by the regulator.
It was found that players from the Netherlands could create a player account and gamble on both sites, which was illegal as neither site had a Dutch licence.
LCS and MKC would have had to pay a penalty of €165,000 (£142,771.25) and €84,000, respectively, if they did not leave the market.
