Interwetten’s most senior exec announces his departure
Speaker of the board Stefan Sulzbacher stated that he is leaving the operator in good hands after 30-month spell in the hot seat

Interwetten’s speaker of the board, Stefan Sulzbacher, has announced that he will step down from the company after two-and-a-half years in the role.
Sulzbacher joined the privately owned Germany and Austria-facing operator in September 2020 after a lengthy career in sports and aviation.
He also owns his own consultancy firm, Sulzbacher Unternehmensberatung, which specialises in turnaround management, financial engineering and real estate.
In his time as speaker of the board, Interwetten’s equivalent of a CEO, Sulzbacher oversaw the challenge posed by Interwetten’s core market of Germany following the restrictive regulation introduced as part of the Interstate Treaty on Gambling.
When speaking to EGR in July, Sulzbacher slammed the regulations as a “nightmare” and lamented the growth of the black market.
He said: “There is a big black market in Germany and the German government does nothing to fight against this market. I don’t understand why they don’t because the German authorities are losing a lot of money every month.”
Sulzbacher was also at the helm as Interwetten expanded its portfolio of sports sponsorships, including a regional partnership with Liverpool and the NHL in Austria.
In his LinkedIn post, Sulzbacher said that he is pleased with the firm’s progress under his leadership and that he has created a “high-performance team”.
Sulzbacher said: “After 30 months of high-speed racing, I was ordered to the pits by the race control and unfortunately have to end the race in promising positions.
“In the last 30 months, I was allowed to get to know great employees, and I had the privilege to expand this team with great minds and characters to an even greater team.
“With this high-performance team it was possible to initiate a successful transformation process in a real traditional company.”
“It was outstanding to work with you. Thank you very much for your support,” he concluded.
