GVC to donate 42 football sponsorships to GambleAware
Operator gives SPL and EFL sponsorships for 2019/20 season to Bet Regret campaign

GVC Holdings will donate its sponsorships of 42 different English and Scottish football clubs to GambleAware’s ‘Bet Regret’ campaign for the forthcoming 2019-20 season.
The agreement covers the entire Scottish Professional Football league (SPFL), together with several high-profile English teams including Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion, Burnley, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United.
For the SPFL sponsorship, Bet Regret messaging will replace the Ladbrokes logo on interview backdrops and both static and LED advertising boards for all clubs within the SPFL.
Patrick Kerr, director of safer gambling at GVC, said the company wanted punters to enjoy betting and recognised the importance of allowing fans to bet “in a safe, responsible way”.
“Handing over this valuable inventory to GambleAware is a demonstration that we are committed to helping our customers bet in a safe and responsible way, and we look forward to continuing to promote the Bet Regret campaign in the future to help increase awareness about safer gambling,” Kerr added.
GVC’s Betdaq brand has previously donated its Charlton and Sunderland sponsorships to charity following GVC’s pledge to end shirt sponsorships.
Paddy Power’s has since also pledged to remove its football sponsorships as part of its “Save Our Shirt” campaign.
GambleAware’s ‘Bet Regret’ campaign, which was launched earlier this year, centres around raising awareness of three so-called risky behaviours in sports betting including betting whilst bored, drunk or chasing losses.
Marc Etches, CEO for GambleAware, said he was “delighted” with the move made by GVC in supporting the Bet Regret campaign.
“With the number of opportunities to bet and exposure to messages associated with gambling being so prevalent in football, it’s incredibly important that football fans think twice about betting when drunk, bored or chasing losses,” Etches added.
