GGPoker Network enters Romania with playgg.ro
Poker operator’s ambassador and Romanian descendant Daniel Negreanu to engage with local players and feature in marketing

GGPoker Network has expanded into the regulated market of Romania with playgg.ro, allowing players in the Eastern European nation to access the poker operator’s worldwide player pool.
Operated by WindGG, a joint venture between GGN Europe Ltd and Skywind Holdings Ltd, playgg.ro is regulated under the local licence issued by the National Gambling Office (ONJN)
Playgg.ro offers customer assistance in the local language, responsible gaming and customer protection features, along with a fully localised experience of the GGPoker software.
Meanwhile, GGPoker’s global ambassador and six-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, Daniel Negreanu, will engage with local players with dedicated promotions and is to feature in Playgg.ro advertising.
The 47-year-old Canadian high-stakes pro, who has amassed live earnings of $45m (£34m) at the poker tables, is a descendant of a Romanian family and is a well-known figure in the country.
Marco Trucco, head of Europe at GGPoker, said: “This is another important step in the expansion of GGPoker into regulated European markets. Romanian players now have access to the best poker software, the biggest tournaments and promotions in the industry.”
Hilary Stewart-Jones, CEO of Skywind Holdings, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with GGPoker. Skywind’s philosophy is local partnerships with a global scale and we are very excited and proud to be part of this Romanian initiative.”
GGPoker has been vying for the lead with PokerStars in terms of global poker traffic of late; data from tracking site PokerScout shows GGPoker has a seven-day average of 5,800 players at the cash tables, compared with 6,000 at PokerStars.
GGPoker was also among the first batch of operators to launch in the newly regulated Netherlands market in October.
