GeoComply: Super Bowl LVII geolocation checks top 100 million
Latest data shows 25% year-on-year increase with more than 100,000 in and around State Farm Stadium

More than 100 million geolocation checks were conducted across 23 US states and the District of Columbia over the course of Super Bowl weekend according to the latest data released by GeoComply.
The figure is up 25% year-on-year on last year’s showpiece game. More than 7.4 million sportsbook accounts were registered over the course of the weekend, up 32% YoY.
Held in Arizona, the final, which was won by the Kansas City Chiefs, was the first Super Bowl to take place in a state where online sports betting is legalized.
Indeed, more than 100,000 geolocation checks were conducted in and around Glendale’s State Farm Stadium where the game was held from over 8,000 fan sportsbook accounts.
New York topped the top 5 states by total geolocation checks over the weekend with 13.9 million being conducted in the Empire State, just a head of recently launched Ohio, with sports betting stalwarts Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan the best of the rest.
Betting activity was bolstered by the fact that the home states of the playoff teams, Philadelphia Eagles (Pennsylvania) and Kansas City Chiefs, also offer legalised sports wagering. Kansas launched online sports betting in September 2022, but the Kansas City Chiefs’ stadium – and many of its fans – are located in Missouri, where sports betting is not yet legal.
Over Super Bowl weekend, GeoComply recorded 2.2 million legal sports betting geolocation transactions in Kansas while Missourians attempted to access legal sportsbooks in other states a quarter-of-a-million times and were blocked from betting.
GeoComply CEO and co-founder Anna Sainsbury hailed Super Bowl LVII as a “record-breaking” event typifying Americans’ interest in betting through legal sportsbook operators.
“GeoComply’s unprecedented transaction figures from this Super Bowl weekend reflect the growth of legal online sports betting. This tightly regulated industry emphasises consumer protection, transparency, and accountability,” Sainsbury said.
“Every state that regulates sports betting is a blow to the predatory black market that operates in the shadows, providing zero safeguards for bettors and no economic benefit to the local community,” she added.
Transaction volumes were measured between midnight EST on February 11 through the end of the Super Bowl on February 12, 2023. State Farm Stadium data was collected starting at 12:00PM EST on February 12 through the end of the Super Bowl.
