GeoComply data reveals record NFL betting weekend
Data showed an increase of 72% in geolocation volumes over the opening weekend of the NFL

GeoComply has revealed data which shows it conducted 103.1 million geolocation checks over the opening weekend of the NFL, up 71.5% on 2021’s figures.
This data was collected from Thursday through to midnight on Sunday.
Illinois saw the biggest increase in checks, from five million to eight million, which is a rise of 60%. This is due to legislators allowing mobile registrations instead of in-person registration at the state’s casinos and tracks, which was previously required.
Five more states (Arkansas, Connecticut, Kansas, Louisiana and New York) were included in the data having gone live with sports betting since the opening weekend of the NFL in 2021.
New York shot straight to the top of GeoComply’s list with the highest volume of transactions.
Anna Sainsbury, CEO of GeoComply, said: “New York continues its reign as ‘King of the Hill’ with 15.3% market share for US betting, but we are also seeing strong growth across the country.”
Pennsylvania came in second with a rise of 29.7% to 15.3 million. The Keystone State trailed New York by 400,000 transactions.
New Jersey and Michigan came third and fourth in terms of total volume, with the smaller rise from 12.6 million to 13.5 million (New Jersey) and 7.7 million to 9.7 million (Michigan) indicating these markets reaching maturity.
Illinois rounded out the top five.
Sainsbury added: “GeoComply has worked hand in glove with our customers over the offseason to ensure a seamless and, most importantly, safe start to the NFL season.
“Whether it’s confirming location, verifying identities, or detecting and thwarting possible fraud, our technology solutions are leading the way to support the regulated online gaming environment,” she concluded.
This data comes after the American Gaming Association anticipated that 46.6 million Americans were planning to bet on the upcoming NFL.
