Genius Sports Group seals Sportzcast acquisition
Data giant inks undisclosed purchase agreement for worldwide scoreboard data harvester

Genius Sports Group has acquired sports scoreboard data distributor Sportzcast in a move to bolster its data provision capabilities.
Sportzcast uses its proprietary Scorebot technology to harvest data from venue scoreboards and deliver real-time information.
Sportzcast has installed its technology in more than 6,000 sports venues worldwide. The Scorebot is compatible with more than 194 variations of scoreboard.
Genius Sports Group will now be afforded access to this data, which in turn will allow it to enhance its product portfolio across data, streaming and media.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The purchase marks the first M&A activity for Genius Sports Group since its £1.1bn merger with special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) dMY Technology Group II.
The combined company is due to list on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021.
Mark Locke, Genius Sports Group CEO, said the acquisition would make the data giant an enticing partner for sports federations across the world.
Locke said: “Acquiring Sportzcast expands Genius’ official data offering and relevance in the US and worldwide, making us even more compelling to sports leagues and federation partners.
“This acquisition is yet another milestone in GSG’s rapid, continued growth. We are excited to continue executing on our strategy by leveraging Sportzcast’s incredible technology to scale our streaming and media businesses and bolster our core data products,” he added.
Michael Connell, Sportzcast president, said: “Genius is the ideal partner to accelerate our innovation and supercharge Sportzcast’s global growth through its strong distribution network. We are thrilled to join the Genius team and offer exciting new capabilities for our customers and partners.”
