Genius Sports adds Xbox pioneer to its board of directors
Microsoft veteran Robbie Bach links up with sports betting supplier to bring his extensive tech experience to the company

Genius Sports has appointed former Xbox chief Robbie Bach as a new independent director to the company’s board, effective from 1 October.
The supplier giant said Bach’s “deep understanding of technology” and ability to drive consumer engagement would make him an “outstanding addition” to the board.
Bach spent 22 years with Microsoft and served as the tech titan’s chief Xbox officer and as president of the entertainment and devices division.
During his time with Microsoft, Bach was pivotal in launching its first gaming console, the Xbox, in 2001.
He then proceeded to spearhead the launch of the Xbox Live online service, in which Xbox owners played against each other via the internet, before unveiling the next generation Xbox 360 console in 2005.
Elsewhere during his time with Microsoft, Bach helped bring the Windows Phone and iPod challenger product Zune to market.
Bach also sits on the boards of the Bipartisan Policy Centre, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Habitat for Humanity International.
His previous boardroom experience includes lengthy spells with audio specialist Sonos and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
In joining Genius Sports, Bach will slot in alongside Claire Valoti, Daniel Burns, Kimberly Ann Bradley, Genius Sports CEO Mark Locke and chair Kenneth J. Kay on the board.
Former MGM CFO Kay was named as chair in June, having been on the board as an independent director since March 2023.
Touching on his appointment, Bach said: “Genius Sports is experiencing exceptional growth through its advanced technology and its global reach.
“I am excited to have this opportunity to collaborate with such a talented and visionary team and I look forward to supporting Genius’ continued success and innovation.”
Locke, Genius Sports CEO, added: “I am delighted to welcome Robbie Bach to our board.
“I know his proven expertise in driving consumer-focused innovation in the technology and entertainment industries will be an invaluable asset.
“This level of insight and expertise will undoubtedly help accelerate our efforts to revolutionise how sports content is understood, consumed and experienced globally.”
