Gamesys, Betway and Betfred lead Q2 GambleAware donations list
Charity reveals latest donation contributions and outlines search for next chief executive

Gamesys Group, Betway and Betfred have topped the latest list of voluntary donations to GambleAware with more than £1.1m being donated to the charity in Q2 2020.
Gamesys, which operates the Jackpotjoy and Vera&John brands, donated £450,000 to GambleAware during the period, the largest sum received by the charity in the second quarter.
The operator has increased its focus on responsible gambling during the coronavirus pandemic by voluntarily ceasing all UK advertising and employing increased scrutiny of players and responsible gambling-led tools during the lockdown period.
Betway made the next largest donation to GambleAware during Q2 with £134,000, while UK bookmaker Betfred donated more than £61,000.
Online casino and poker operator 888 rounded out the charity’s top contributors during the period, donating £50,000.
In addition to revealing its latest donations list, GambleAware has launched the search for a replacement for long-standing CEO Marc Etches.
Etches confirmed in August that he would leave the top job at GambleAware in March 2021 after more than a decade in the role.
The process to select a successor will be led by GambleAware’s board of trustees, with the board looking to recruit an individual with healthcare commissioning expertise.
In an 11-page candidate brief, the charity outlined several qualities required from its next CEO, including prior experience of overseeing all aspects of financial control, risk management and corporate governance.
Experience of leading change and a strategy for growth, as well as a knowledge of government policy-making environment, are also among the skills sought by the charity.
The window for applications closes on 9 November.
