Former Sky Betting & Gaming trading head joins 1/ST Technology
Steven Johnson named as head of managed trading services for Ontario-based horseracing technology supplier, bringing nine-year Flutter spell to an end

Former Sky Betting & Gaming senior trading manager Steven Johnson has been unveiled as head of managed trading services for horseracing technology supplier 1/ST Technology.
As part of his new position, Johnson will play a key role in the supplier’s offering, with the 1/ST subsidiary operating seven products across the globe.
The supplier has a deal in place with bet365 in the US and recently penned a partnership with the Turkish Jockey Club to bring racing from the Eurasian nation to its sportsbook customers.
Prior to joining the supplier, Johnson spent just shy of a decade with Flutter-owned Sky Betting & Gaming, arriving in November 2015 as a sports trader, before becoming horseracing trading supervisor five years later.
Then, in February 2021, Johnson was promoted to horseracing manager, before his final role with the firm came in April 2022 when he was named senior trading manager.
1/ST Technology said Johnson had played a “key role” for Sky Betting & Gaming as the company welcomed him to his new post.
Taking to LinkedIn to confirm the move, Johnson wrote: “I will be leaving Sky Betting and Gaming with a heavy heart after nine incredible years, working with a number of colleagues that I now get to call friends, but so grateful for this opportunity.
“2025 is going to be a massive year for 1/ST Technology and it will be a privilege to be on board for the journey.”
Keith Johnson, 1/ST Technology president, added: “We’re thrilled to have added Steve’s combined analytical nous and leadership qualities to spearhead our trading team as we head into a 2025 rich with possibilities.
“Happily, he has already demonstrated that his deep trading and risk-management experience, coupled with a structured and common sense approach to adopting new platform technologies, make him easy to work with and a rudder to help others in the team navigate any challenges and continue producing quality output.”
“His insights on trading, wider growth strategy, product and technology diligence are second to none, and he is sharpening up our tech services for our ever-growing group of global partners.
“We feel sure he’ll prove a true asset to 1/ST Technology and all our clients, as we bid to broaden both the scope of our solutions and our international footprint,” Johnson concluded.
