Former Sky Bet risk manager joins UK Tote Group as head of compliance operations
Ben Wright joins Wigan-based parimutuel betting firm in newly created compliance position

UK Tote Group has appointed former Sky Betting & Gaming (SBG) risk strategy manager Ben Wright to the newly created role of head of compliance operations.
Wright joined SBG in April 2016 as a responsible gambling and customer due diligence manager, where he oversaw operational processes and dealt with customer complaints.
He later became a risk operations manager in November 2017, retaining operational management responsibility for more than 30 members of staff and handling the day-to-day management of the firm’s 24-hour-a-day real-time risk function.
Wright changed roles again in April 2020 to become risk strategy manager for the Leeds-headquartered firm.
In his new role as head of compliance operations for the UK Tote Group, Wright will oversee day-to-day compliance operations to ensure the business complies with UK and international regulatory standards.
In a LinkedIn post, Wright wrote: “Delighted to be joining the team at UK Tote Group on Monday. I am very proud to be part of such a well-loved and historic institution, with an incredibly exciting future.”
UK Tote Group operations director Dani Johnson added: “Over the last year we have strengthened all areas of the business, including operations and compliance.
“As part of this, we are delighted to welcome Ben to the team who brings excellent experience and expertise to the role of head of compliance operations,” she added.
UK Tote Group operates parimutuel betting on horseracing but is looking to expand this remit to other sports to appeal to a wider player base.
In December, the business raised more than £20m to fund increased investment in the operator’s pooled betting platform.
Elsewhere, the operator’s new office at Waterside House in Wigan is now open.
