Former LeoVegas exec criticises big firms for hiring from outside the industry
Andreas Bardun also says establishing a tech start-up in Malta is challenging in the face of stricter regulations

Former LeoVegas executive and co-founder of gaming technology provider, Mobilt, Andreas Bardun, has criticised big legacy companies for hiring from outside the industry.
Speaking to EGR Intel, Bardun said: “I think they never really have the passion for the product.
“We’re trying to get people in that have the passion for the product because that’s how you get the most out of people.”
Bardun left LeoVegas and started his own company last year. The start-up was rebranded as Mobilt in April and moved into a new office in Malta’s Sliema in May.
Mobilt, which helps operators build customised sportsbook and casino products using different suppliers’ technologies now has a staff count of around 16.
Bardun said the process of starting a business in Malta had proven a challenge under new, stringent regulations.
“With new and tighter regulations many companies are afraid of working with startups, especially when it comes to payments and banking,” Bardun said.
“They are also afraid of taking newcomers on board.”
In August, the Malta Gaming Authority implemented a new licensing system that aimed to increase the scope and powers of the regulator.
