Flutter names Paddy Power veteran as MD of in-house games division
Mike Phelan brings an end to 17-year spell with Irish bookmaker as he moves to head up Flutter Studios
Flutter Entertainment has named former Paddy Power commercial director Mike Phelan as its new managing director for its Flutter Studios division.
The Paddy Power veteran will now head up the FTSE 100 group’s in-house game studio division, which is made up of Cayetano Gaming, Core Gaming and Stars Studio.
Phelan has been with Paddy Power since 2006, originally joining the company to work on its poker offering before shifting over to igaming.
Phelan rose the ranks and became commercial manager for Paddy Power Games in September 2010, followed by several more promotions before becoming head of marketing in August 2015.
In July 2016, following the £5bn merger with Betfair, Phelan was appointed as head of Paddy Power Games and Betfair Arcade.
Then, in January 2018, Phelan was named commercial director for Paddy Power Gaming.
Speaking on his transition from Paddy Power to the parent company, Phelan reflected on his 17-year spell with the brand.
Phelan said: “What a journey it’s been to help grow and shape the Paddy Power business into the extremely strong position it’s in today. Recently being recognised as a Superbrand is a testament to where Paddy Power sits with punters and fans.
“Many thanks to all colleagues past and present I toiled with over the years – both in Paddy Power, Flutter and at our fantastic gaming partners.”
Touching on his new role as MD of Flutter Studios, Phelan added: “I’m not moving too far however, taking on a new and exciting role as MD of Flutter Studios at Flutter Entertainment, helping our three games studios make great games for Flutter’s casino brands globally.
“Looking forward to working with colleagues old and new as we support Cayetano Gaming, Core Gaming and Stars Studios in delivering on our ambitious plans.”
