Exclusive: Superbet CEO Johnny Hartnett to step down in January
Former Paddy Power Betfair exec to be replaced by deputy chair Jimmy Maymann, with Hartnett moving to non-executive director role

Superbet CEO Johnny Hartnett will step down from his position on 15 January and be replaced by deputy chair Jimmy Maymann, EGR can exclusively reveal.
Hartnett joined the Romanian operator as CEO in August 2019, replacing the business’ founder Sacha Dragic who stepped up to become chair.
In standing down from his role as CEO, Hartnett will take up a position as a non-executive director with the company.
The former Paddy Power Betfair exec will be replaced by Maymann, who joined Superbet in April as deputy chair.
Maymann previously served as CEO of news website the Huffington Post (HuffPost) for three years between 2012 and 2015, sandwiched between two separate stints at AOL.
Maymann’s appointment comes as Superbet readies itself for an IPO on a Western European stock exchange before the end of 2025.
Earlier this year, Superbet added a new CFO, COO and chief business development officer, with Maymann now completing the refreshed senior team.
Speaking on his decision to step down, Hartnett remarked that his time with the company had been “the ride of a lifetime”.
He said: “I’d like to thank Sacha and the Dragic family for the opportunity they gave me and the unwavering trust, support, guidance and friendship over my five-year tenure.
“I took over a business with an incredible foundation to work from and hopefully the building blocks we’ve put on top of that will set the business up well for the next phase of its growth.
“Thank you to all my colleagues who worked with me during that time. I’m immensely proud of all we’ve done together and look forward to continuing to support you all from a different seat on the bus.
“Superbet is very fortunate to have someone of Jimmy Maymann’s experience, capability and leadership to take over as CEO. I look forward to ensuring a seamless transition with Jimmy and to continued commitment to the Superbet journey in my next role on the board of directors,” he added.
Touching on his new role, Maymann commented: “Superbet has tremendous potential in terms of business scalability and expansion into international markets, all within a solid framework of trust between the group, its customers and market stakeholders.
“The progressive thinking of the leadership team is a testament to this highly talented and visionary group.
“I am delighted to take on the role of CEO and offer my expertise and passion, closely working with Superbet’s board to accomplish the company’s goal of becoming a global leader in the tech and entertainment industry, while fostering an exemplary environment of responsible gaming.
“I look forward to building on the great work done to date and leading the team in its next phase of growth.”
