Ex-Hills and 888 safer gambling chief joins BetBlocker
Pedro Romero links up with blocking software firm as he brings wealth of RG experience to the role

Former 888 and William Hill safer gambling head Pedro Romero has joined gambling blocking software firm BetBlocker.
Romero joins BetBlocker as the group’s chief of safer gambling partnerships and will bring his vast experience from the world of compliance and responsible gambling to the company.
Romero spent five months with 888 as head of safer gambling from July 2021 until November 2021, having previously served as Hills head of safer gambling policy from May 2020 through to July 2021.
Alongside his time with operators, Romero has also worked with gambling suppliers and charities in his career in the shape of Gaming Innovation Group and Gordon Moody.
As chief of safer gambling partnerships for BetBlocker, he will be based in Gibraltar and will report into the company’s board of trustees.
He assumed the role at the start of March 2022.
His main responsibilities will be to develop long-term collaborations and partnerships with charities, service providers, operators and any other stakeholders interested in minimising gambling-related harm.
Speaking to EGR, Romero said: “BetBlocker provides multi-platform free blocking software, which is an essential part of regulatory requirements.
“BetBlocker is not against gambling – it holds the belief that collaboration is the best way to prevent harm,” he added.
BetBlocker was founded in 2017 and allows consumers to restrict their access to gambling sites across several platforms.
Unlike national self-suspension registers such as GAMSTOP, BetBlocker also prevents customers from accessing unlicensed sites.
