Evolution unveils new Lisbon tech hub
Stockholm-listed supplier bolsters tech output with Portuguese space set to house 150 employees within two years

Evolution has opened a new technology hub in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon as the supplier giant continues to grow its European footprint.
The new space will house teams focused on software development and computer engineering, with the eventual aim of installing complete teams to oversee the entire development and production process.
The hub will mainly focus on programming in Scala and JavaScript, with the Stockholm-listed firm also looking for additional employees across its site reliability engineer (SRE) and quality assurance (QA) teams.
Evolution plans to hire 100 employees to work in the Lisbon hub by the end of 2022, rising to 140 by the end of 2023 and up to 150 employees by Q2 2024.
Recruitment for the new tech hub began during the summer of 2021 and has seen Evolution draw on a global pool of talent to fill out the space.
Evolution also noted that some of its Eastern European teams could be relocated to the Lisbon hub.
The new hub, based in a three-storey building previously occupied by a nightclub on Avenida 21 de Julho, was officially opened in a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Evolution group chief technology officer David Craelius and the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas.
Previously speaking to SAPO TEK, Evolution’s communication lead for Portugal, Abílio Diz, praised Portugal as a tech-forward country.
He said: “We know that some of the largest companies in the world are based here, and although the market is highly competitive, it is also a sign that the most competent professionals are also in Portugal.
“The reason we adopted a hub in Lisbon is because it takes advantage of the engineering know-how and skills that Portugal offers to create next-generation technical solutions that help create unparalleled user experiences,” Diz added.
