Bux Khalid Syed leaves Malta-headquartered firm as he eyes return to consultancy role within industry

Esports Entertainment Group (EEG) VP of esports Bux Khalid Syed has left the operator after almost two years with the firm.
Syed, a veteran of the esports betting sector, joined EEG in October 2020 as head of operations before quickly being named head of esports in November 2020.
He was promoted to VP of esports in March 2021, based in Cape Town, and oversaw the management of the esports betting product, platform and various teams.
Syed also co-founded Betway’s esports product while working for Digital Outsource Services and launched his own B2C firm, Arcane Bet.
Posting on LinkedIn, Syed thanked his colleagues and teams for their support during his tenure, and confirmed he was planning on moving into a consultancy role following his departure.
He wrote: “My time at EEG has come to an end. Thank you for the this opportunity Magnus Leppäniemi [marketing director] and Grant Johnson [CEO].
“To all the partners who helped grow the VIE brand in Latam, I really appreciate all the hard work and time spent working together.
“With that said, I’m no longer exclusive to a company. I am back to igaming and esports betting consulting for foreseeable future.”
In May 2022, EEG reported its EBITDA losses had trebled year-on-year while operating losses ballooned to $50.6m.
