Entain confirms Australian redundancies
London-listed operator says decision was made following “rapid period of growth” as at least 50 positions cut

Entain has confirmed a series of redundancies in Australia following a “tweak” to its internal structures.
The London-listed operator, which runs the Ladbrokes and Neds brands in Australia, confirmed to EGR that it had taken the decision to trim the workforce.
Media reports from the Australian Financial Review put the redundancies at between 50 and 80.
The impacted roles are across several arms of the business, including customer service, digital, technology and marketing.
Entain Australia’s total headcount sits at around 800 people. The operator recently sealed a 25-year deal with TAB New Zealand to expand its operations across the region.
Net gaming revenue from Australia fell by 2% in H1 with the operator pointing to strong prior year comparators for the dip.
Active customers increased 3% during the first six months of the year.
Australia could also be set for regulatory headwinds, as states raise point of consumption tax and an parliamentary inquiry could usher in restrictive advertising measures. The self-exclusion system, BetStop, launched on 21 August.
Speaking to EGR, an Entain spokesperson said: “Entain has enjoyed a rapid period of growth in Australia, and like any major technology-led company we continue to review business operations and tweak our structures to set us up for the next stage of growth.
“Unfortunately, this has led to a small number of redundancies across a range of business units.”
