English Football League winger charged with breaching FA betting rules
Lincoln City’s Dylan Duffy accused of allegedly placing, instructing, permitting, causing or enabling 30 bets last season

The English Football Association (FA) has charged Lincoln City’s Dylan Duffy with breaching its betting rules.
An FA statement said Duffy allegedly “placed, instructed, permitted, caused or enabled” 30 bets on football matches between 18 August 2023 and 23 April 2024.
The 21-year-old Irish professional, who has scored three goals in 41 league games for the Imps, has until 18 July to respond to the charge.
The news comes after a season of several high-profile players being slapped with fines and suspensions varying in length.
Last October, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali was hit with a 10-month ban from professional football by the Italian Football Federation for betting breaches while with his former club, AC Milan.
After self-reported breaches of the FA’s betting rules that same month, Tonali was later handed a suspended two-month ban in May 2024 after admitting he placed between 40 and 50 bets between August and October 2023, including four on Newcastle United.
Elsewhere, Brentford’s Ivan Toney missed the first half of the 2023-24 season after the FA handed him a eight-month ban alongside a £50,000 fine.
West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta is currently under investigation by England’s football governing body for breaching betting rules on four occasions during the 2022-23 season, although he denies the allegations.
Several athletes across multiple sports have breached their league’s anti-betting rules.
Toronto Raptor’s Jontay Porter pleaded guilty to wire fraud conspiracy as part of an illegal gambling scheme which cost him his NBA career, while San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano was handed a lifetime ban by the MLB after he violated the league’s gambling policy.
