Dr Laila Mintas joins Australian betting operator to lead US expansion
PlayUp plans to operate in US with its in-house betting platform and trading team

Betting industry consultant Dr Laila Mintas has joined Australian betting operator PlayUp Group as the firm seeks to expand into the US.
PlayUp, which offers fantasy sports and real-money betting on sports, racing and esports, has gained market access to multiple states with Mintas now taking on the role of CEO.
She previously spent two and a half years as deputy president for Sportradar’s US division, during which the data provider achieved a valuation of $2.4bn.
PlayUp aims to offer its scalable products in the States later this year, using its in-house betting platform and risk and trading teams.
Dr Mintas said of the upcoming launch: “I have always been a believer that technology plays a significant role in the success of betting products and ultimately the companies behind them [and] what excites me about PlayUp is that it operates its own in-house platform.”
Founder and group CEO of PlayUp Daniel Simic said: “The US has the potential to become the largest legal sports betting market in the world [and] we are well positioned to continue our success story in the US.
“I couldn’t have thought of someone who would be a better fit than Laila and am very happy that she joins our team,” he said of the appointment.
