DGE hits GVC with $81k fine for self-exclusion failings
Case involves several self-excluded players that lost a total of $41,759 via Borgata’s online offering
GVC Holdings has been handed an $81,000 financial penalty by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) for self-exclusion failings via Borgata Casino’s online offering.
Borgata’s product sits on the bwin platform and was found to be allowing self-excluded players to continue to wager online.
The case dates back to a complaint filed in December 2018 after self-excluded players lost $41,759 on the site.
In a similar ruling released today the DGE ordered that GiG pay a penalty of $2,000 for allowing players to register online without imputing their social security numbers.
In response to EGR questions, GVC said: “GVC has worked closely with the DGE to identify and fully resolve the technical issue which gave rise to this incident.
“The Group accepts its responsibility in this case and takes all such matters extremely seriously.
“We are committed to providing a safe and secure gambling environment, which protects vulnerable customers.”
SG Digital was also hit with a $1,000 fine for not properly identifying self-excluded players.
Earlier this month the DGE ordered a gambler to repay more than $90,000 of funds accrued by playing online out-of-state.
The case involved said gambler using New jersey-based websites belonging to Borgata and Ceasers.
