Danish GGR leaps to DKK604m in November 2021
Latest monthly review reveals sports betting GGR almost doubles as land-based vertical continues to slide

The Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) has provided updated figures about Danes’ game consumption preferences for November available with the release of its “Monthly Review” this week.
The regular report – which charts monthly game usage in the country by measuring gross gaming revenue (GGR) in a number of key sectors – is designed to give stakeholders an at-a-glance overview of the Danish gambling market and has been updated more or less every month since January 2012.
In total, the Danish operators achieved GGR of DKK604m (£67.7m) in November, up from the DKK525m posted in October 2021.
Figures in the latest report show that both sports betting and online casinos have maintained steady growth throughout 2021, while numbers for gaming machines and land-based casinos have continued to slide.
The biggest increase in month-on-month GGR came from sports betting, with October’s figure of DKK131m almost doubling to DKK252m in November. This further contributed to an 8.1% increase in GGR for the vertical during 2021, with total revenue rising from DKK2bn to DKK2.2bn.
Despite online casino MoM GGR dipping slightly from DKK241m in October to DKK218m in November, the sector managed to maintain its overall progress in 2021 with a 13.4% increase in GGR on the previous year – the biggest growth of any vertical for the period – and total revenue of DKK2.6bn.
Unsurprisingly, the numbers for gaming machines and land-based casino again struggled to eat into the year-on-year deficit that can largely be attributed to closures caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Gaming machines were the biggest loser in the latest report, with MoM GGR dropping from DKK115m to DKK102m to further exacerbate a -24.9% change for the year.
Online casinos, meanwhile, slipped from DKK38m in October to DKK32m in November and have seen an overall -9.4% fall in GGR for 2021.
More detailed market numbers will be published soon in the Danish Gambling Authority’s quarterly statistics.
