Danish GGR grows 15.1% in April 2022 as land-based sector leads the way
Welcome return from previously Covid-19-impacted industry drives total market GGR to DKK609m

The Danish gambling industry has returned a total gross gaming revenue (GGR) of DKK609m for April 2022.
This total of DKK653m represents a 15.1% year-on-year (YoY) rise from April 2021, when the market returned DKK529m.
Breaking down this total return by segment, sports betting GGR decreased by 16.5% from DKK266m to DKK222m.
Online casino also dipped YoY, falling 5.5% from DKK256m to DKK242m.
However, April’s online casino return of DKK242m was the highest GGR since January 2022, rising incrementally from February (DKK214m) and March (DKK226m).
While Denmark’s online sectors failed to impress, the country’s land-based industry was the key driver in the YoY total GGR increase.
With new life breathed into the land-based sector, following stagnation caused by various Covid-19 restrictions over the last two years, gaming machines and casinos were able to ramp up GGR returns.
GGR from land-based gaming machines jumped by almost 1,500% from DKK7m in April 2021 to DKK110m in April 2022.
Land-based casinos were closed in Denmark in April 2021 due to restrictions, so astronomical growth from a standing start to DKK35m in April 2022 was a welcome return.
Casino GGR in April also followed a sustained growth pattern since the sector’s reopening.
In February, land-based casinos returned GGR of DKK31m, followed by a return of DKK34m in April.
