
Danish GGR falls 18.2% in August as online verticals lose pace
Online sports betting and casino both decrease from July as land-based operations improve


The Danish gambling industry posted monthly gross gaming revenue (GGR) of DKK494m (£56.4m) in August as operators recorded downturns in online betting and casino revenue.
According to the latest data from the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA), online verticals in the Nordic nation have posted month-on-month declines in revenue.
Sports betting GGR amounted to DKK128m, down from the DKK235m recorded by Danish operators in July, spiked by the Euro 2020 tournament.
This represented a 45.5% month-on-month decrease in sports betting GGR and a 25.8% decrease compared to August 2020.
Online casino GGR slipped slightly in comparison to sports betting, falling from DKK229m in July to DKK221m in August.
The slim disparity from July to August meant online casino GGR only fell by 3.4% and in fact showed a year-on-year increase of 87.2% compared to August 2020.
Elsewhere, slot machine GGR grew from DKK109m in July to reach DKK112m in August, while land-based casino GGR continued to grow following relaxations of Covid-19 restrictions.
Land-based casinos began to generate positive GGR in May after reopening and posted GGR of DKK11m in that month. The vertical secured DKK33m in GGR in August.
The total GGR of DKK494m in August represented a 18.2% downturn in GGR from July, when operators posted a collective revenue of DKK604m.
The GGR data is based on duties submitted by DGA licence holders to the Danish Tax Agency.
