Danish gambling revenue drops 3.9% in Q4 2021
Increases across online casino and land-based operations fail to offset sharp decline in sports betting revenue

Danish gambling revenue fell 3.9% year on year (YoY) for Q4 2021 as a significant dip in sports betting contributed to the overall downturn in the market.
Total quarterly revenue in Denmark for the reporting period reached DKK1.67bn (£188m) down from the DKK1.74bn posted in Q4 2020.
Sports betting revenue fell by 18.3% in Q4 2021 to DKK593m compared to the Q4 2020 result of DKK726m.
However, despite the disappointing revenue return from sports betting, all other verticals in Denmark posted annual revenue increases.
Online casino revenue jumped 7.2% YoY from DKK675m to DKK723m.
Breaking online casino down by game type, online slots represented 73.2% of total revenue, with roulette (9.7%) and blackjack (7.7%) the second and third most popular games, respectively.
Land-based casino revenue posted an impressive YoY growth of 21.9% owing to the reopening of retail following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in the country.
Land-based casinos returned DKK84m in Q4 2021, up from the DKK69m in Q4 2020.
Physical slot machine revenue remained flat with a 0.9% increase from DKK267m to DKK269m.
Elsewhere, by the end of 2021, 30,451 Danes had self-excluded themselves from gambling via the country’s ROFUS register, up from 26,115 in 2020.
Of these 30,451, 75.1% were male and 24.29% were female, while 65.28% had self-excluded themselves indefinitely.
