
Danish gambling revenue slides 2.8% in FY 2022
Lotteries remained the highest-grossing sector in the market, with overall GGR hitting DKK10.1bn


The Danish gambling market has recorded a 2.8% year-on-year (YoY) fall in gross gaming revenue (GGR) for full-year 2022.
The total market GGR slipped from DKK10.4bn to DKK10.1bn as most verticals saw drop-offs in GGR.
Online casino revenue fell by 4.22% from DKK3.032bn to DKK2.904bn. Breaking the vertical down, online slot machines represented over 76% of GGR, with roulette and blackjack the second and third most popular game types, with 8% and 7% shares, respectively.
Sports betting revenue fell by 11% in 2022, reaching DKK2.317bn over the year. This represents a decrease of DKK280m on recorded figures for 2021.
The majority of the sports bets were placed via mobiles (61%), with the remainder staked in retail settings (28%) and via desktops (11%).
Elsewhere, the regulator’s data highlighted how Denmark’s land-based operations have regained its place after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Retail slot machines returned DKK1.15bn, an increase of DKK311m, corresponding to a 37% YoY increase.
Land-based casino revenue remained at DKK349m, an increase of DKK113m and representing a growth of 48% YoY.
The number of people signing up to ROFUS, the Danish Gambling Authority’s self-exclusion register, totalled 36,921 in 2022. This is an increase of over 8,000 players and is the largest annual increase of registered players since ROFUS was established when the market went live in 2012.
