Connecticut introduces state-wide self-exclusion portal
Constitution State’s Department of Consumer Protection unveils new register in combination with the Connecticut Lottery Corporation and local tribes

Connecticut’s state administration has launched an online platform ahead of the launch of online gambling in the state.
The initiative was formulated by the state’s Department of Consumer Protection with help from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
They worked alongside the Connecticut Council on Problem Gaming, Connecticut Lottery Corporation, Mashantucket Pequot Tribe and the Mohegan Tribe to launch the portal.
“Connecticut is about to embark on a new future when it comes to sports betting and gambling and with these new programmes come renewed responsibilities for state government,” said Governor Ned Lamont.
“We’ve worked diligently to have strong provisions to ensure our self-exclusion policy is effective and provides the ability for individuals to take the proper steps to hold themselves accountable.”
The programme will not only allow customers to exclude but will enable consumers to learn the signs of problem gambling and to practice responsible gaming habits once retail and online wagering goes live.
“We know there is a lot of excitement around the launch of an expanded gaming industry in Connecticut,” said DCP Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull.
“While this may be a form of entertainment many people can enjoy, for others it can be a harmful addiction. The ability to voluntarily exclude yourself from these activities is one of the many tools available to help.
“We encourage everyone to learn the signs of problem gambling, and to utilise the many resources available if you think you or a loved one may have an addiction,” she added.
Sports betting became legal in Connecticut in May, with the state’s lottery able to offer wagering while Connecticut’s two tribal gaming operators are allowed to provide online gaming as well.
Rush Street Interactive won the sports betting contract with the Connecticut Lottery while the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe and Mohegan Sun have partnered with DraftKings and FanDuel respectively.
The market is expected to go live with sports betting in early October in time for Week 5 of the NFL.
