Casumo vacates Denmark as historical AML reprimand handed down
Online casino operator withdrew licence earlier this year as DGA reveals trio of risk assessment shortcomings

Casumo has closed its online casino operations in Denmark as the country’s regulator handed out a reprimand for historical AML failings.
Casumo withdrew its licence on 18 April and no longer offers online casino content in the market, with players accounts remaining open until 18 September 2022 to allow them to withdraw funds.
The licence withdrawal came following an investigation by the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) which identify three failings regarding the operator’s AML process.
The first reprimand was given because Casumo’s risk assessment, until 11 March 2022, failed to sufficiently include identification and risk assessment of temporary accounts.
The second reprimand was because the Malta-based operator failed to include separate identification and risk assessment of its products, once again until 11 March.
The third and final one was down to the fact Casumo, until its licence withdrawal on 18 April, had not risk-assessed its delivery channels efficiently, namely the fact its mobile app had not been risk-assessed.
The DGA noted that this trio of failings mean the privately-owned firm did not possess a “risk assessment which sufficiently contributed to ensure that Casumo was not abused for purposes of money laundering or financing of terrorism”.
The DGA said that repeated AML failings are reported to the police as standard procedure, however as Casumo had subsequently updated its risk assessment this would not materialise.
Last month, the DGA reported Tipwin to the police over deficiencies in the operator’s AML procedures, both online and at its retail outlets.
