Betway compliance and regulatory director leaves after nine years
Roger Parkes to take a break from the industry after joining Super Group-owned operator in 2015 from Gambling Commission
Betway Group’s director of compliance and regulatory affairs, Roger Parkes, has announced he is leaving the firm after nearly a decade of service.
Parkes first joined the operator in July 2015 as global head of compliance and regulatory affairs in London.
Three years later, Parkes relocated to Malta as he was promoted to director of compliance and regulatory affairs in June 2018.
During his time with the company, Parkes’ brief included regulatory compliance, licensing, betting integrity, customer welfare, KYC and AML.
His move to Betway came after 15 months at the Gambling Commission, where he joined in April 2014 as senior manager of sector and thematics.
It was his second stint with the UK regulator after first arriving in July 2006 as a remote and technical adviser.
In between those roles, Parkes spent a little under six years with Betfair as its group compliance director.
Parkes first entered the industry in 1998 when he arrived at Casinos Austria International as its director of security and surveillance.
He also counts spells with SkyCity and the Alderney Gambling Control Commission on his CV.
Announcing his departure from Betway, Parkes said on LinkedIn he was taking a few months to rest and recharge before the next challenge arises.
Parkes said: “Well, after nine years, I recognise it’s time to finally say goodbye to Betway and take a bit of a break.
“When I look back at the company all those years ago, I saw an entrepreneurial business knowing it needed to take the big step forward into a corporate environment with the systems and structures that requires.
“I’m proud to say I had the unwavering support of the board to develop a highly effective and industry-respected compliance/AML/BI/DP and safer gambling team.
“Moving to Malta and joining the board myself six years ago, we developed a truly effective compliance culture and corporate oversight that expanded through the constant restructuring that eventually led to SGHC and the NYSE listing.
“For myself, I’ve a couple of months of rest and recharging planned. Like others who have left one role without another lined up, it is both unnerving and exciting, but the next challenge/opportunity is just over the horizon.”
