Betting firms to create 5,000 apprenticeships in post-pandemic UK
Betting and Gaming Council reveals support for government’s Plan for Jobs programme in four-year pledge to support young people in employment

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has promised to support young people looking for work by creating thousands of opportunities across the gambling industry over the next four years.
The BGC’s Plan for Jobs scheme will see its member firms create a total of 5,000 apprenticeship roles for young people looking to work in the industry between now and 2025.
Operator members will also sign-up to the government’s Kick Start scheme, which provides part-time job opportunities for 16-to-24-year-olds on Universal Credit.
Betting firms are also set to offer graduate recruitment programmes to university students taking the first steps on their career paths.
The BGC’s Plan for Jobs mirrors a UK government initiative which is looking to support young people in entering the world of work following the economic disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
BGC CEO Michael Dugher said the pandemic meant providing young people with jobs was now “more important than ever”.
“Between now and 2025, we pledge to offer a further 5,000 apprenticeships – crucial opportunities for young people to take their first step on the career ladder,” he added.
“Young people have been hardest hit by the pandemic. This pledge is an important step in enabling them to be a part of the wider recovery.
“The future remains highly uncertain and the impact of the pandemic will be felt for a long time to come.
“BGC members are ready to play their part by giving young people – our country’s future – the skills and opportunities they need to thrive,” he added.
