Betsson Group chief strategy officer announces retirement
Peter Zäll calls time on spell with Betsafe Nordicbet parent company following wide-ranging career that included stints with Nike and Nordic department stores
Betsson Group’s chief strategy officer Peter Zäll has announced his retirement after more than a decade in the gambling industry.
Zäll, a former Nike marketing director during the 1990s, joined the Stockholm-listed operator as its chief strategy officer and managing director for Sweden in May 2018.
Prior to arriving at the operator, he spent just under six years with Svenska Spel from March 2012 to October 2017 as chief marketing and product officer.
Svenska Spel was Zäll’s first job in the igaming sector, having previously been CEO of Nordics department store Illum, between August 2006 to June 2010, and CEO of Nordiska Kompaniet from June 2002 until March 2006.
Announcing his retirement, Zäll took to LinkedIn in December to thank Betsson AB CEO Pontus Lindwall and group CEO Jesper Svensson for their support.
Zäll also noted that he was open to the possibility of joining a board of directors or taking on consultancy work post-retirement.
He wrote: “Time to retire. I’ve been lucky to work with some great companies and brands over the years, and now finally Betsson Group for the last six-and-a-half years in Malta.
“I’m so grateful for my last bosses Pontus Lindwall and Jesper Svensson. An amazing journey, with six consecutive record years and so much fun along the way.
“A company with great culture and amazing professional and fun colleagues from all over the world. My closest colleagues have been simply outstanding.
“[The] next chapter includes a move to Spain and a bit more focus on family, friends, travel, padel and golf.”
In Betsson’s Q3 financial report, the operator reported an 18% year-on-year increase in revenue while online casino revenue reached an all-time high of €209.9m.
