BetMGM triggers major New Jersey hiring spree as it seeks to chase down FanDuel
Operator recruiting for more than 100 new roles amid ambitious plan to shake off “underdog” status

BetMGM has kicked off a wholesale recruitment drive to add more than 100 new employees as it plans to make up ground on US market leader FanDuel.
The bulk of the vacancies are in the operator’s New Jersey head office, while the firm is also recruiting for roles in Las Vegas, Washington DC, and Detroit.
The New Jersey office is advertising for roles within the firm’s business intelligence, compliance, content creation, legal, risk and payments, and human resources departments.
A number of product management, product operations, and project management roles are also up for grabs.
The recruitment process is designed to add scale to the sports betting business to challenge the likes of DraftKings and FanDuel, while also preserving its 30% market-leading share in US igaming.
“Today, BetMGM feels like the underdog,” BetMGM said in a statement on its careers site.
“An offspring of champions [MGM Resorts and Entain], we hold high expectations as we feel the sparks of potential.
“Over the next year, we’ll continue to move at the speed of a start-up, making strategic decisions to position us for greatness.
“In the next few years, we will be number one. We are getting ready for the big game. All of our practice and perseverance will come together, and we’ll take our big shot,” the post adds.
Over the last two years, BetMGM has tripled its headcount to more than 700 employees while also dealing with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a recent interview with EGR North America, BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt highlighted the unique pitfalls of recruiting remotely during the pandemic period.
“Many of our colleagues haven’t met each other. I haven’t met some of some of my senior team members, it’s just mad,” Greenblatt said. “Ironically, onboarding has been one of our success stories.
“If you had told me this is what will be required of you over the next 18 months and these are the macro circumstances within which you are going to have to achieve this, I would have told you impossible, no way, because it was outside of our frame of reference,” Greenblatt added.
In January, BetMGM was named one of Glassdoor’s best places to work for 2021, with Greenblatt ranked 10th on a list of highest-rated CEOs for US small and medium companies.
On the recruitment drive, the BetMGM boss added: “For all of the growth and all of that headcount growth, our ambition is beyond our current ability to deliver.
“Everyone’s working tremendously hard and that creates its own strains. Maintaining the whole work life balance in a post Covid-19 world is very, very hard,” he added.
