Betmate hires ex-Flutter and Sporting Index execs following Series A funding round
Liverpool-based business has appointed Luke Lockwood to spearhead its B2B and partnership efforts, as well as Paul Turner to lead the firm’s growth strategy

Social gaming startup Betmate has made two new team additions, including former Flutter exec Luke Lockwood as head of B2B as part of the business’ expansion plans
The operator, which offers peer-to-peer betting, as well as daily fantasy football, has secured Lockwood’s services as its new head of B2B and partnerships, while Paul Turner also arrives as Betmate’s head of growth.
Lockwood’s most recent role came in the form of a two-year spell as Flutter UK and Ireland’s head of people experience, based out of the operator’s Dublin offices.
Prior to that, Lockwood spent just over six years at Flutter-owned Sky Betting and Gaming, arriving in December 2016 as a product manager, before being promoted to senior product manager in September 2019 before his exit.
The former Flutter figure worked for Perform Group between August 2014.
Meanwhile, Turner has experience serving as vice-president of multiple companies, including separate spells as VP of growth for food and beverage business allplants and BeautyPie, a cosmetic retail firm.
He also boasts industry experience, having occupied the role of executive vice-president of marketing for Green Man Gaming for four years between 2017 and 2021.
That stint was preceded by four years with Sporting Group, where Turner climbed the ranks to depart as the firm’s head of Sporting Index in August 2017.
Their additions were confirmed by Betmate founder Ryan Lawrence, who talked up the importance of the pair for both the operator and its B2B subsidiary Engage Games, which develops white-label free-to-play games under the Betmate banner.
Lawrence wrote on LinkedIn: “Sometimes you wake up and think – this week could be a big one. When we reflect in years to come, this week feels like one of those for Betmate and Engage Games.
“We’re buzzing to welcome two new star signings to the team this week: Paul Turner and Luke Lockwood. Both bring something special to the table and feel like the right additions, at the right time.
“Massive thanks to our fantastic team, investors and advisers for the continued support throughout this hiring process. Looking forward to looking back on this post and everything it represents.”
In January, the company secured $2m in a Series A funding round led by venture capital firm Accelerate Ventures.
The VC company noted: “We are excited to work with and help Betmate to grow and build the next phase of their business, Engage Games, which provides white-labelled bespoke games for clients who want to better engage with their target audience.”
