Betfred appoints former Stats Perform VP as first-ever chief product officer
Nick Cockerill joins the operator’s executive team after his four-year tenure with the data firm as he is handed wide-ranging remit across online and retail operations

Betfred has appointed Nick Cockerill as the company’s new chief product officer (CPO) following his departure from data firm Stats Perform earlier this month.
Cockerill will move into the newly created role with three core focuses: building up Betfred’s online arm, further enhancing the retail offering and “accelerating the transition of Betfred into a technology first organisation”.
Cockerill spent nearly four years at Stats Perform, serving as the company’s vice-president of product from February 2021 onwards.
During his time with the supplier, he played a key role in the group’s sports betting strategy and led on product and go-to-market plans for the business.
Prior to joining Stats Perform, he worked as head of product and design for global sportsbook at The Stars Group from February 2019.
Before that, Cockerill held various roles across a five-year stint at Sky Betting and Gaming, transitioning to The Stars Group after it snapped up the Leeds-based operator in a $4.7bn deal in April 2018.
There, he started as a product manager, later advancing to senior product manager and finally head of operational technology.
Cockerill also worked for the likes of Adidas and Asda Walmart in commercial and online trading roles.
Speaking about his appointment, Cockerill said: “I’m delighted to join Betfred at such an important and exciting time in their history.
“Betfred is one of the UK’s strongest brands in the sector and I’m looking forward to working with the excellent team here to elevate Betfred to where it should be as one of the top online bookmakers in the UK, and advancing our leadership in retail.”
Betfred CEO Joanne Whittaker added: “Nick joins with a wealth of experience and has an excellent track record in the sector. His appointment is key to our huge ambitions for Betfred.”
Cockerill’s move comes several months after Betfred absorbed Sharp Gaming and rebranded the supplier to Betfred Technology.
The deal also saw the firm’s CEO, Andrew Daniels, named as Betfred’s chief information officer after Sharp Gaming spent seven years building out a new platform for the operator.
